19 weeks into our triplet pregnancy our world changed...as if
carrying 3 babies at once was not world changing enough. We had that
moment you see in the movies when the ultrasound tech leaves the room
and doesn't return alone. It is far more horrible, that moment, than
they let on. And you remember far less of what is said. We bumped along
for 3 more months, me on my left side, first on my couch then in the
hospital, and my husband trying to carry on with life while keeping me
pumped full of calories, and hope, and pharmaceuticals. Somewhere in
those 3 months we made a drive across the country and my babies and I
had a surgery that saved our pregnancy. They can do that now, operate
inside the womb, it is crazy, and humbling. Sometimes it is miraculous.
The child we were prepared to lose fought like nothing I have ever seen
and she beat the odds. I think sometimes when that happens you go on to
live happily ever after. And some day we might. But for now I track our
journey with these three kids we love to pieces and a tall list of
conditions we are learning to embrace.

the tests
Our children, all three of them, are miracles. Mya will face more challenges than is fair. She will never do so many of the things we so often take for granted. But she will also be a blessing in our lives.
